Bought some jeans in H&M last week, (so happy beacuse I can never find jeans which fit properly!) and I love the tag which was on them.
It’s interactive which is something a bit unique for a clothes tag, but mainly I like how simple it is, just string and brown (recycled!) paper…I think I have some kind of brown paper fetsih! Not too sure about the text going across as well as down the page…a bit too cluttered, but the typeface and colour looks good.
I picked up the Cass Art Manifesto when I was in their Charing Cross store last week and I love the illustrations and text on it.

They’re drawn by Nina Chakrabarti
I visited her website and she’s done some awesome stuff! One piece which particularly inspired me was ‘Wallpaper’ (below), Nina Chakrabarti used drawings and photographs to record her kitchen when she moved house as it was her favourite room. In a couple of weeks I’m moving out of halls and was thinking I could use a similar technique to record my pinboard in my bedroom (it’s huge!).

As part of our ‘Makeability Month’ we had a workshop in Letterpress, (it was the first time I’ve ever done it) and it was awesome- definately something I would want to get more experienced with in the second year. I did pretty basic things but I think the outcome is so effective and the actual printing of it takes seconds, so once you’ve got everything set up you could do hundereds!
Firstly I found a few different variations of my letter ‘T’ which I put into a nice layout (I think!) and began my printing…

Then I used different characters to create emoticons. We were given some cool surfaces to print on…a luggage tag, receipt book pages and neon signs. These backgrounds really added to the pieces and helped them all to look a bit different.

(My favourite is the one on the orange heart with the little quiff…what a cutie!)
I’m reaching the end of the ‘Makeability Month’ where we spent a few weeks with second year Graphic Arts tutors pretty much just doing a few fun little projects. I’m usually mixed with Advertising students, so it’s been great to purely focus on Graphics and I’ve really enjoyed doing the work. Best month at uni yet, bring on next year!
At the start of our ‘Makeability Month’ we chose a letter at random out of a bag and I chose…’T'…hence all my outcomes are based around this letter.
3D Type

A T(ea) bag…this was hand sewn (no sewing machine at uni) and took FOREVER, but it was so relaxing sitting there sewing for ages and I think the outcome was worth it.
I also made other forms of 3D type using Tea related objects…visit my Flickr page to see more photos.
Logo

A logo for the financial company ‘Chart’ (well, a fictional company made using the beginning of my name and the letter ‘T’).
I made this using graph paper and strips of coloured paper so although it looks simple is was bloody fiddly to make! Why cut out pieces of paper? Well, we began the day by looking at some of Chermayeff’s work, and apparently that’s all he used to design his logos. Seems like a pretty good technique and at least you won’t delete all your work if you press the wrong button!
